Image Too Large for an Upload Form? A Quick Checklist
Why uploads get rejected and a step-by-step way to fix size, format and dimension errors.
When a form says your image is too large, it is usually one of three things: the file size is over the limit, the format is not accepted, or the dimensions are wrong. Here is how to find and fix the problem.
1. Read the exact rules
Look for the maximum size (in KB or MB), the allowed formats (JPG, PNG, PDF) and any required dimensions. Different forms ask for different things, so always go by what your form says.
2. Fix the file size
Use the compress tool and type the limit, or pick a ready-made size such as 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB. Staying a little below the limit is safer than being right on it.
3. Fix the format
If the form wants JPG and you have PNG or WebP, convert it with PNG to JPG or WebP to JPG. If it wants a PDF, use image to PDF.
4. Fix the dimensions
If the form needs a certain width and height, use the resize tool first and compress afterwards. That order gives the best quality for the size.
5. Still rejected?
- Check that the file extension matches the real format.
- Try a simpler file name without special characters.
- Try a different browser, or upload from a computer instead of a phone.
- Make sure you are uploading the new file and not the old one.
